Lucy might appear to some people as a bit of a wild girl, but she’s full of love and life and, yes, just a little bit of magic. Her magic comes from deep inside her and it shines through to all who study her closely, animals mostly, but some humans as well (except for those humans that are too evil to capture with the magic of true love). You see, Lucy loves every living creature and they, in turn, love her. Even her mean stepdad’s vicious dog is no match for the love that projects from this girl.
For those of you who have read the first book of Christina M. Pagès’ The Lucy Series, Lucy in Her Secret Wood, this second book, The Woodland Adventures of Lucy and Will, is a continuation of the two young peoples’ adventures, mostly in the magical woods that surround Will’s grandmother’s house. The story is mainly about Lucy and her hopes and dreams to become a part of a family, a real family, one that will understand her wild nature and allow her to roam her beloved woods freely.
She believes she has found that wonderful family with Sam, the poet, and his adult daughter, Rose. But there are some hurdles she must overcome first, including the reappearance of her stepdad who only wants her for her money. And, Lucy must spend more time living in the orphanage while Sam and Rose can sort out the legal matters to bring her home to them forever. A beautiful story, told in the style of popular young people’s author of the early twentieth century, Gene Stratton-Porter. Looking forward to more stories about Lucy and Will.
